In the citation read at the event, the award organisers said Dr. Adenuga was noted for “doing things that people thought were impossible” and commended him for always breaking new grounds in telecommunications investments and technology acquisition.

Globacom also won two awards at the event, as the Pan-African Investor of the Year and the Best People-Oriented Telecoms Company of the Year. The company won the Pan-African Investor Award for its multinational undersea cable infrastructure, Glo 1, and rapid entry into other African countries.

The citation for Globacom stated that no other network had rolled out in another country within five years of operating in its home country. Globacom set the record by launching its network in Benin Republic in its fourth year, and obtaining licences in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire thereafter.

Globacom was also named the Best People-Oriented Telecoms Company of the Year for its “We Live Where You Live”, “Rock and Rule” and “Laffta Fest” projects.
