Men's Basketball Tops New Haven, 59-49

West Haven, CT - The Adelphi University men's basketball team topped the University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference match up 49-59 Tuesday night, December 8 at Charger Gymnasium. The Chargers fall to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the NE-10, while the Panthers improve to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Richard Byrd led the Panthers with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Steffon Farley 14 points and four rebounds. Casey Cosgrove also chipped in nine points, five rebounds and four assists.

Adelphi found themselves down early by four points as New Haven opened a 8-4 lead in the opening five minutes. The two teams would then go nearly point-for-point for the next 10 minutes before the Panthers went on a 4-0 run to take a five-point lead, 19-14, with 4:59 left in the first half on two Richard Byrd free throws.

UNH would scored a pair of baskets to cut the lead back to one, but the Panthers with closed the half with a three-point lead, 25-22, after leading by seven with 1:15 to play.

Adelphi immediately opened a large lead in the first minutes of the second half, going on a 13-2 run over the first six and a half minutes, sparked by six straight points from Steffon Farley on two lay-ups and a dunk. However, the Chargers would chip away at the Panther lead, eventually cutting it to six points, 50-44, with 3:38 left in the half.

But, six points was as close as the Chargers would get as Byrd and Casey Cosgrove combined to hit six consecutive free throws and push Adelphi's lead back to 10, 58-48 on the way to a 59-49 win.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, December 12 when they host Caldwell at 3:30 pm.


this is what i am talking about on the adelphi wining their second straight games in a row and right now The win moves Adelphi to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play and next game is non-conference at 3.30pm on saturday against caldwell college of new jersey and will be in building for real and holla at you real alumni and fan of adelphi panther's basketball.
