Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team hosted Bloomfield College on the first day of the Adelphi Holiday Classic on Tuesday, December 29. Casey Cosgrove led the way for the Panthers, scoring all 18 of his points in the second half, to help Adelphi to a 81-66 victory. With the win the Panthers improve to 11-1 overall and run their win streak to six, while Bloomfield falls to 7-3.

Cosgrove and Richard Byrd led four Panthers in double figures with 18 points each, while Steffon Farley chipped in 11 and David Akinyooye scored 10. Akinyooye also pulled down 10 misses, while Rob Johnson netted a game-high six steals.

Adelphi and Bloomfield traded the lead in the first half, with no one able to take a lead larger then five points, which the Panthers did on two occasions. Adelphi actually trailed, 30-28, with 4:14 left in the game before a John Calarco made free throw pulled them within a point and then 30 seconds later a Farley dunk moved the Panthers ahead one, 31-30.

Bloomfield responded with a Robert Young jumper to re-take the lead with 2:31 to play, but Farley again answered with a flush and a Johnson triple with 1:25 left in the half gave Adelphi a 36-32 lead. However, a Ryan Rodrigues jumper in the lane with three ticks on the clock cut the score to 36-34 at the half.

The first ten minutes of the second half were more of the same as Bloomfield forced five more ties in the action and took a brief one point lead at the 14:30 mark. The visitor's trailed by one point, 56-55 with 11:12 on the clock thanks to a Chris Sampson lay-up.

However, a Cosgrove deep three-pointer pushed the lead to four, 59-55 and started an Adelphi surge that ended with another Cosgrove triple that gave the Panthers an 11 point bulge, 70-59 with 5:25 on the clock. From there Bloomfield would get no closer then eight, securing a 15 point, 81-66 victory.

Adelphi will take on Nyack, who collected a win over New Haven tonight, on Wednesday, December 30 as the Panthers conclude play in the Adelphi Holiday Classic at 5:30 pm.
