Caldwell, NJ - The Adelphi University men's basketball team faced Caldwell College on Saturday, December 19 collecting a 71-40 win at the ECAC Holiday Classic, hosted by Caldwell College in the George R. Newman Center. The loss is the Cougars' second in a week to the Panthers, who defeated Caldwell in a non-conference game last Saturday in Garden City, New York The Cougars are now 0-7, while Adelphi improves to 9-1.

Richard Byrd led the Panthers with 13 points and four steals, while Chris Diasparra added 12 points on 5-8 shooting. Casey Cosgrove also reached double digits, dropping in 10 points to go along with five assists.

Caldwell held an early 9-2 lead on a pair of three-pointers but the Panthers came back strong, leading by as many as 23 on the way to a 43-21 halftime advantage. Adelphi kept the Cougars at bay in the second half as Caldwell never came closer than 23 points, with the Panthers cruising to another 31-point win over Caldwell.

Adelphi held Caldwell just 21.1 percent sooting from the floor in the second half and 28.9 percent for the game, while hitting on 45 percent of their own shots.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday, December 20 when they close out play at the ECAC Holiday Classic against Dominican College at 2:00 pm.
