The Adelphi University women's basketball team hosted the Yellow Jackets of American International College this afternoon at the Center for Recreation and Sport. The Panthers held a 71-70 lead with less than two minutes remaining but fell short in the end, 75-73. Adelphi falls to 0-6 and 0-5 in the Northeast-10, while American International improves to 2-4 and 2-4 in the league.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 35-18 lead in the first half with 4:35 remaining, which was highlighted by a 17-4 run. The Panthers would chip away and end the half on a 7-3 run in the final 2:33. Freshman Kara Tancredi would hit two free throws and then assisted on junior Ashley Caiafa's jumper. Caiafa would convert the three-point play to send the Panthers into half down 38-35.

Sophomore Theresa Foley would open the second half with a quick lay-up, which was then followed by a Caiafa three to give the Panthers a 40-38 lead. With both teams trading baskets, Leachia Conley would bury a jumper to tie the score, 55-55, with 10:50 left in regulation. After Rhea Pascal's two free throws evened the score at 62-62, the Yellow Jackets went on a 5-0 run to take a 67-62 lead, their biggest of the second half. The Panthers would erase the deficit by going on a 5-0 run of their own which was sparked by sophomore Erika Cottle's three-point play. With 1:06 remaining and the score tied at 73-73, Adriana Johnson drove the distance of the court for the lay-up to give the Yellow Jackets a two-point lead. Caiafa's 3-pointer at the buzzer fell short as American International held on for the victory, 75-73.

For the Yellow Jackets, Kristin Boesenberg led the way with 19 points and two steals. Conley scored 14 points to go along with six assists, while Pascal added 10 points and five rebounds.

For the Panthers, Caiafa netted a game-high 21 points and added three assists. Tancredi scored 18 points and collected six rebounds, while Foley posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Cottle was also in double figures with 13 points.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, December 8 when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut to take on the University of New Haven at 5:30 pm.


Panthers Fall In Close Game To AIC, 75-73 in very tough battle for the northeast-10 conference and play hard on their home court and to me they are improving alot playing with these teams and make them very better team and overall 0-6 at the moment.
