Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team played host to Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International College (AIC) on Saturday, December 5. The Panthers placed four players in double figures, picking up a 75-64 victory. With the win Adelphi improves to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in NE-10 play, while AIC falls to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in conference action.

Richard Byrd led the way for Adelphi with a game-high 23 points and he also added eight rebounds. Both Casey Cosgrove and Rob Johnson chipped in 15 points, while Cosgrove handed out a team-high six assists. Chris Diasparra also reached double figures, scoring 10 points and pulling down seven misses.

Isiah Wallace was the high man for the Yellowjackets, scoring 22 points to pair with nine rebounds. Aikeem Vanderhorst was the only other member of AIC to reach double digits, scoring nine points.

Adelphi led 16-11 just over eight minutes into the game when a Cosgrove deep triple, sparked a 22-10 run that lasted five minutes and gave the Panthers a 38-21 edge. All 10 of Diasparra's points came during that run. However, AIC would chip away at the Panther lead, getting a jumper from Vanderhorst with 32 seconds left to pull within five at the break, 44-39.

The Panthers got a quick bucket from Byrd and a foul shot each from both Steffon Farley and Chris Ranglan to push their edge to nine, 48-39 with 16:20 to play. But, AIC responded with a basket and three straight free throws to cut the margin to four, 48-44.

Adelphi managed to run the lead back to nine on three more occasions, but each time the Yellowjackets would inch back into it, using an Adrian Hynes-Guery made free throw to pull within five, 60-55, with 5:44 left in the game.

From there the Panthers would push the lead back to nine on a Cosgrove made free throw, 66-57, with 4:19 left and would keep eventually pull out the nine point win, 74-65.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, December 8 when they travel to West Haven, Connecticut for a 7:30 pm meeting with the University of New Haven.
